Cohya Cafe, shortlisted for Restaurant & Bar Design Awards
Cohya Cafe, opened in April 2022 in Chișinău and designed by Grosu Art Studio, is shortlisted for the most important hospitality design competition in the world.
Having reached its 14th edition, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards represents the most influential global design competition for food and beverage spaces. It recognizes and celebrates the world’s most creative locations and the people behind them.
Monday, 8 August 2022, Restaurant & Bar Design Awards announced the short lists for each prize category. There are 5 locations on the Europe – Cafe Short List, three of which are in Eastern Europe:
- Cohya Cafe (Chișinău, Moldova) – Grosu Art Studio
- EL&N Wardour (London, UK) – Holland Harvey Architects
- Fresh Black (Kiev, Ukraine) – Loft Buro
- Nikos (Odessa, Ukraine) – Belenko Design
- The Espressonist (Xanthi, Greece) – Yiannis Pouspourikas Design Studio
Cohya Cafe is developed by entrepreneur Serghei Grigor with architect Victor Grosu, founder of Grosu Art Studio. COHYA („Sonya”) has a sophisticated, yet affordable cuisine, and offers the experience of a premium coffee, prepared using Modbar systems.
„When we talk about design, it is enough to find a good designer. However, when we talk about HoReCa design, one may make a thousand mistakes. A restaurant is a business, so you need a designer with serious know-how in business creation. Victor and I are both extremely passionate about HoReCa, we have written five successful histories together, all still active. Each place has its history and philosophy and is a major player on the Chișinău food market. Two of these places have surpassed the national borders: Crosta Kitchen and Bakery, with two awards at BIG SEE Interior Design Awards, and now Cohya Cafe, in the RBDA2022 Short List”, Serghei Grigor declares.
„Currently, we have two types of guests: those who come here five times a week, to feel cosmic, and those who visit us as if it were a feast. Cohya is a place from the future, many people still are not sure how to behave or how to eat certain dishes in the menu, but this is perfectly normal, few of us would know to behave in the Space!”, Serghei Grigor adds.
Victor Grosu, the coordinator of the project carried out with architect Cătălina Tofan, remarks:
„I am saying it with every occasion: a restaurant is not only about design, but about atmosphere, experience, and I am thrilled that what we created at Cohya was appreciated by judges of this level. Restaurant & Bar Design Awards celebrate the most creative HoReCa places in the world, and Cohya is a place full of attitude, where each detail matters: each piece of furniture and lighting, every plate, every taste, everything composing the overall atmosphere and provoking every sense, day after day.”
The Category Winners Restaurant & Bar Design Awards will be announced in September 2022 and will automatically be considered for Best Overall distinctions. These awards will be presented at an innovative and exciting two evening ceremony, attended by the world’s top designers and operators, at a London venue on the 20th October.
